Water

Treated piped water distribution system is available in the Town of Grandview, Town of Gilbert Plains, Village of Ethelbert and an extensive network has been developed throughout the Rural Municipalities of Grandview and Gilbert Plains.  The Government of Manitoba owns the Pleasant Valley Reservoir which is an important source of drinking water for the Rural Municipality of Grandview.

 

Residents and businesses located outside the towns and who are not participating in the rural water distribution program use either private wells or truck water in from the municipal water filling stations.  Water hookups may also be negotiated for potential users that are close to municipal boundaries.  For additional information about the rural water lines, contact the RM of Gilbert Plains at (204) 548-2326 or the RM of Grandview at (204) 546-5082.

 

RM of Dauphin and City of Daulphin share a water treatment facility at the foot hills of the Riding Mountain National Park.

 

Two water co-op's are established to service two subdivisions in the RM in addtion to servicing the City of Daulphin

 

Waste Management

The municipalities are investigating the development of a centrally located regional integrated waste management project to create environmental options for the residential, commercial, industrial and institutional waste.  The 11 landfills across the municipalities were developed 30 to 50 years ago and are at various stages in their life cycle.  With many experiencing environmental strains, the region has decided to work together.  The municipalities are additionally planning for the future needs of the communities.

 

Manitoba Hydro

Hydro electricity rates are the most competitive in North America according to a Hydro Quebec study competed in 2005.  The study compared power, voltage, consumption and load of major centres and listed Manitoba Hydro (US$2.58) as the least cost.  For example the average price (at CDN$1 to US$0.8253) was Winnipeg (US$2.58) compared to Edmonton (US$5.20), Montreal (US$3.34), Chicago (US$4.77), Houston (US$5.26), San Francisco (US$ 8.48), Boston (US$11.38) and New York (US$12.01).

Natural Gas

The Trans-Canada Pipeline runs south of PTH #5 along the communities of Dauphin, Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Hillsburg and Roblin.  Natural gas is currently not available in Ethelbert.

Telecommunications

Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) - MTS is Canada’s third-largest national communications provider.  Services to national business customers includes;  wireline voice, high-speed internet and data, next generation wireless, directory, digital television, security and alarm monitoring services.

I-Netlink - The Parkland Telecommunications Network (PTN) provides wireless broadband services to the greater Parkland region through I-Netlink.  The communities and Parkland Community Futures Development Corp formed a committee in 2005 to bring wireless services to the Parkland.  With the support of the Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Program and community partners, more than 16 Rural Municipalities (or over 30 communities) were included in the $4 million project.
